Several licensors utilize plug valves to control the catalyst flow in their units in lieu of slide valves. TapcoEnpro's enhancement to the original plug valve design includes an Internal Stuffing Box. The internal stuffing box prevents catalyst bypass from the regenerator to the air inlet tee-section. The internal stuffing box feature is under patent #4,827,967.
Another feature available for the plug valve is the Internal Check Valve mounted in the stem tube. The internal check valve prevents catalyst from falling into the stem tube and tee-section in case of air supply failure. The internal check valve feature has been patented by TapcoEnpro under patent #4,813,817.

Hollow Tube Plug Valve
Used as an an alternate to the Slide Valve, the uniquely patented TapcoEnpro Plug Valve controls the catalyst as it moves from the regenerator to the base of the riser while oil is introduced into the riser via the stem of the plug valve. Subsequently, the catalyst flow is regulated by the Plug Valve.
